Live Streaming Beluga Whales From the Churchill River
Creating the Live Broadcasting Beluga Whale Boat was an extraordinary feat that combined customized audio, underwater and above-water camera systems, fixed wireless networking for seamless roaming, and even a bit of welding. The project presented immense challenges and complex logistics. The HDOnTap team spent weeks in Del Mar, California, meticulously designing and fabricating the controllable underwater camera and mount. Once completed, the components were shipped to Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, for assembly in the Frontiers North maintenance shop. After assembly, the team tested the wireless network as the boat roamed the Churchill River in pursuit of beluga whales, fine-tuning antennas to ensure a stable signal across the bay.
